It’s known as one of the most versatile watches in the catalogue, having the ability assist navigation both under water and on land due to its water resistance, 24 hour GMT hand, and just overall robustness.
I got nervous a couple years ago when inaccurate predictions were made about Rolex either changing the bezel to black ceramic, or discontinuing the Explorer II altogether. I was pleasantly surprised when Rolex released the new iterative 226570 version.
As I alluded to earlier, the watch’s larger 42mm proportions and white dial was a cocktail that I couldn’t say no to. It’s even got a nickname in my collection now: “the polar bear”. Any surprises? How popular they’ve become. I almost bought one secondhand a few years back because their resale value was so poor. The Rolex Explorer II "Polar" (216570) features a 42mm Oystersteel case and 24-hour GMT bezel, ideal for tracking a second timezone. The white dial comes with luminous accents on the hands and hour markers, for effortless readability in low-light settings. The brushed steel bezel is back, as are the familiar black and polar dial configurations, orange hands, and orange text on the dial. In fact, very little has changed. The current white and black models look remarkably like the white and black 216570 that came out a . In an era of cerachrom bezels and highly polished links, the Rolex Explorer II ref. 216570 is the only Rolex that still stays true to the 'toolish' origins of the brand. Sticker Price ,100 USD. Explorer II White Dial “Polar Bear” I’ve seen a couple of posts recently regarding this timepiece and I’m one of the one’s who got the text. Anyway I just want to say that this watch easily became my favorite piece among my others (black sub, daytona and green dial RO). I was first dead-set on a Rolex GMT Master 116710LN. I loved the GMT function and even was initially enamored with the ceramic bezel. However, it's size and flashiness just wasn't for me. Then I shifted to the Explorer when Rolex revamped it in 2016.
The Explorer II features a date display, an additional orange 24-hour hand and a fixed bezel with 24-hour graduations, enabling day to be distinguished from night. It became the watch of choice for speleologists, volcanologists and polar explorers. The aggressively sloping bezel reminds me of the explorer or oyster perpetual, except brushed and with some numerals, which I think looks really good. The sizing is perfect on my 6.5 in or 16.5 cm wrist.
